Wondering What to Use Your Site For?

Here are a few suggestions:

You've heard of the "information superhighway", of course - after all, you're travelling on it!  Well, that word "information" is key.   But it isn't the whole story.  The Web is about information - but it's also about filling people's needs: their need for communication, information, companionship, belonging, and for obtaining or disposing of stuff.  It's virtual, all right - but it's also the largest, most varied marketplace the world has ever seen, for buying, selling and trading goods and services.

Some of the things you can do with a Web site are:

  • Advertise - tell the world what you have to offer

    • Provide detailed product information

  • Catalogues of goods and services, usually with prices

  • Maps to your location

  • Provide information - and collect it.   Find out who your customers are and what they want.

  • Two-way communication/interactivity.   People can request goods and information, and they can give you feedback.  You can send information and goods back to them.

    • With "push" technology, you can send information out to them at will.

  • Entertain, amuse, educate.  It appeals to your audience and helps attract traffic to your site.
